Time support on gvSIG

Situation:

A gvSIG 2.0 with the time support and the netCDF plugins installed.

Solution:

The idea of this communication is to show the time support and the NetCDF plugins that has been developed in the context of the gvSIG Sensors project.

The sensors information has the time like a really important dimension: all the observations that a sensor can measure (temperature, presure...) are taken in an instant. For this reason a new time type has been included in gvSIG like a native type. Now, all the data providers can use this type in its data.

The time support plugin includes also a user control to make filters by time. The user can create temporal filters in a view that filters the displayed data by instant or by interval. This control only works if the loaded layers support time and at this moment there is only one provider that supports it: NetCDF.

NetCDF is a set of software libraries and self-describing, machine-independent data formats that support the creation, access, and sharing of array-oriented scientific data (from http://www.unidata.ucar.edu).

In the demo we are going to load several NetCDF files and we are going to create some temporal filters that filter the displayed data in a gvSIG view.

Benefits:

Support the time types that allow the creation of scientific data providers (eg NetCDF).
