Situation: 

It was necessary:

  • to go in for a versatile desktop solution for environmental technicians users over Andalucía.
  • to reduce IT budget by reducing spending in comercial products licenses (investment in technology vs spending)
  • a progressive adoption of open source solutions (services, desktop and databases)
Solution: 
  • Desktop client based on gvSIG.
  • Custom development for a full integration with corporate services: geocatalog, authentication services, document management system.
  • Easy distribution: just plug and run from USB drive or network device.
Benefits: 
  • Reduction of costs and technological dependency derived from using commercial and closed solutions.
  • The adopted solution fits to the specific needs, improving users experience and productivity.
  • First step towards a user as migration to open source software solutions in the Consejería de Medio Ambiente (Junta de Andalucía).
