Situation:

The Norwegian Research Council's project InfraWorld addresses R&D on next generation geographic information management, by studying and implementing concepts of georeferenced managed objects (GMO). The goal is to define, publish and exchange geo-related content as objects so that non-specialists on one hand can explore the content and interact with it, on the other hand specialists can create and instantly use new data models using the same solution. Once a system can handle GMOs it is also able to use any future content types using new data models instantly, without any developments to the original system. The presentation provides an overview of the main concepts behind GMOs and how they were used in the design of GRIFIN framework. The key R&D subjects are: interoperable and programmable content, visualization, decentralized resources, and globally ordered content.

Solution:

Middleware solution for connecting existing systems and for construction of complex systems of systems.

Supports both 2d and 3d solutions.

Benefits:

Systems capable of handling GMOs will be able to use future new types of data/information based on any new data model instantly, without any developments of the original system.

Allows creation of a network service for communication of geospatial information.
